Teaching with The Playlist 101
Teaching with The Playlist 101
Here are the basics to ensure your class is smooth when working with a Playlist as closely as we do:
- Charge your device entirely, or plug it in during class. A dead battery is like getting caught with your pants down.
- Turn off "auto-lock" so you can see your music the entire time. Having to fidget with unlocking your phone while you teach is entirely avoidable. This need to keep your phone on is why we recommend rule #1.
- Download The Playlist onto your device before class and worry naught of faulty internet connections.
- Turn on "airplane mode" & "do not disturb" to avoid texts, calls, or notifications.
- Uncheck "shuffle"—very few things worse than a playlist gone rogue.
- Uncheck "crossfade" to ensure you have time between songs for seamless transitions.
- Place your device where you can see it while teaching. A quick peek here and there ensures your cueing is on point, and you finish with the end of the song.
- Turn the brightness up all the way. It's easier to see from a distance.
- Perform a sound test to ensure the volume of your music matches the inflection of your voice when you're teaching. Toe the line. You want the music to be loud enough that your students can feel it and rock out, but soft enough that your instructions can be heard and followed.
