Barre Eclipse is a rhythmic, fun, badass workout that intuitively and intelligently exercises your entire body with empowerment and grace. Our method has a few unique influences and nuances that come together in a way that you will not experience in other barre methods.
To begin, our personal experiences with injury and healing through physical therapy whet our pallet for extensive anatomy training. We skillfully weave functional anatomical knowledge right into each workout, and our exercises and instructional cues ensure the largest joints in our bodies are building integrated strength. We believe our bodies are innately wise; one does not need to be a doctor or a scientist to know what doesn't feel stable, or how to avoid injury, or how to find the best alignment. Our instructions guide students into a holistic, feeling-based understanding of how their bodies work. We see ourselves as facilitators to help students build more trust in their body's intuition.
Anatomy is the gateway into our physical form, but the energetic benefits of yoga greatly influence our method. Adrienne is spiritual by nature. She's a conscious, sensual being, and in building out our methodology, she integrated yoga shapes and yogic mindfulness into our approach. Adrienne came up with exercises that counter-balanced the impact of too much yoga (read: over-stretching, it is a thing), which, contrary to popular belief, can do more harm than good! Barre Eclipse utilizes anatomical insight and follows a natural, progressive, energetic arch to peak exertion, then skillfully simmers down. If you've ever experienced Barre Eclipse—you know what's up.
Beyond this, we studied intensively on topics such as somatic therapy, trauma, implicit bias and racism, energetic healing, and leadership and community development—all of which are seasoning the Barre Eclipse brew. What's come of it all is our use of language. The words we use and how we use our words are powerful. We thrive on instructions that are inclusive, encouraging, uplifting, and mindful. We seek to empower and recognize our students. This powerful use of words is the Barre Eclipse difference. It's more than the good vibes of an Eclipse instructor, it's intentional and skillful —and we're here to tell you— it's teachable. You, teacher trainee, will learn how to create warm and vibrant environments!
To round it out, we enjoy pushing our inner athlete. We inspire our students to bring out theirs by creating challenging shapes and trusting they can do it. We value slow, steady, and graceful strength just as much as the fast and powerful movements. Plus, there's nothing quite like the feeling you get from eclipsing a badass workout.
You can look forward to dissecting the nuances of our method as we progress through The Manual.
